How to Declutter Your Contacts and Keep Your List Clean

December 5, 2024 (Investorideas.com Newswire) Your phone contacts. They can be a maze, a mess, or a masterpiece. If yours lean toward chaos, it's time to declutter. Here's how to achieve a cleaner, more efficient list-especially if you're using an iPhone.

1. Start With Duplicates

Scan for duplicates first. Apple's iOS 16 introduced a handy feature in the Contacts app: Merge Duplicate Contacts. Open the app, and if duplicates are detected, a banner will appear at the top. Tap it, follow the prompts, and voilà-redundancy gone.

You can also use a phone cleaner app that will remove duplicates not only from contacts, but also from the media library. The CleanUp app for iOS devices can do this. This is the only way to automatically clean up phone storage.

2. Purge the Unnecessary

When was the last time you called "John from the old gym"? Go through your list. Ask yourself, "Do I need this contact?" If the answer's no, delete it. Studies suggest people retain only about 150 meaningful connections-a number worth striving for.

3. Group Wisely

Use groups to categorize. On iPhone, you can manage groups using iCloud. Separate family, work, and acquaintances. A tidy system saves time when searching.

4. Back It Up Regularly

Lastly, backup matters. iCloud sync ensures no contact gets lost.

Decluttering your contacts is liberating. A lean list means efficiency, less digital clutter, and a focus on the people who matter. Ready to clean house? Start today.
