The most challenging video games for Americans

April 21, 2023 (Investorideas.com Newswire) New research has revealed the games Americans are finding the most difficult, with 'Elden Ring' coming out on top.

The study by PC guides & news site Windows Report analyzed the video games that 'walkthroughs' are being searched for the most each month in the US.

It found that 'Elden Ring' is by far the game Americans need help with the most, with, on average, 73,480 searches for walkthroughs on the game each month. The game was released in 2022 to critical acclaim and is the latest installation in developer FromSoftware's collection of challenging RPG titles. The game's difficulty comes from many factors, like its selection of powerful bosses, as well as things like surprise attacks from enemies with some even killing you in a single blow.

Taking second place on the list is the PlayStation-exclusive title 'God of War: Ragnarok'. There are around 12,210 searches for walkthroughs on the game every month. It's a direct sequel to 2018's 'God of War' and is the first cross-generation release in the God of War franchise.

Third place goes to the Nintendo title 'The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening', a remake of the 1993 game for the Game Boy. There are, on average, 11,380 searches a month for walkthroughs of the game, with much of its difficulty coming from the game's puzzles, which can be a challenge, especially for new players.

Coming in fourth place is Metroid Dread, the critically acclaimed addition to the Metroid series that keeps the side-scrolling gameplay previously seen in the series. There are, on average, 11,150 searches per month for walkthroughs of the game, and the game now has a 'hard mode' for those not finding the title difficult enough.

Rounding out the top five is another of the three Zelda titles to feature in the top ten, 'The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time'. The original title was published in 1998, with a remastered version of the game released in 2011. The game receives, on average, 10,680 searches for walkthroughs each month.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for Windows Report said: "While it may be expected to see a game like Elden Ring top this list, it is interesting to see three Zelda titles make the top ten, especially considering how long those specific entries have been around. Additionally, the varied list shows that difficulty isn't just found in one genre either, with role-playing games to action-adventure games making the list."
