February 16, 2023 (Investorideas.com Newswire) "The Last of Us" is the most searched tv show adapted from a video game, a new study reveals.

The study, conducted by online jigsaw site I'm-A-Puzzle, analyzed over 50 TV series and anime that have been adapted from video games over the last 30 years to discover which ones are the most searched for.

The Last of Us is an American TV drama series which aired this year on HBO takes the crown as the most searched TV video game adaptation. It recreates the post-apocalyptic game published by SONY in 2013. On average, it receives over 300 thousand average monthly searches.

The series' fifth episode recently aired, meaning that the first season is now halfway through; this nine-episode series will conclude airing on March 12th. As the series was highly anticipated, critics and fans alike have been praising the adaptation, calling it a faithful portrayal of the game, while bringing to the small screen a refreshed vibe thanks to the actor's interpretations.

"Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" comes in second with 246,000 average monthly searches. Another new series, the anime was released on Netflix on September 13th, 2022, and it is inspired by the video game "Cyberpunk 2077". Upon its release, the adaptation received positive reviews, with praise directed at its characters, animation and worldbuilding. However, the series is not due to be renewed for another season.

Third on the list is "Halo", released in 2022, with 201,000 average monthly searches. The live action adaptation was produced for streaming service Paramount+ and has been in the works since 2015, finally seeing the light last year. The first season had nine episodes and it has been confirmed that another season will be released.

Further down on the list, Netflix's "Castelvania" is fourth with 110,000 average monthly searches. The animated series premiered on July 7, 2017, and it was renewed for a second season on the very same day. "Castelvania" ran until 2021 with a total of four seasons and 32 episodes. The game of the same name was firstly released in 1986 and it is a gothic horror action-adventure game which revolves around Count Dracula, who resurrects every 100 years to take over the world. Moreover, it incorporates elements from various horror films produced by Universal Pictures and Hammer Film Production.

The top five closes with "Sonic Prime", the newest adaptation for tv of the video game starring the world's most popular hedgehog. The series has 90,500 average monthly searches.

A spokesperson for I'm-A-Puzzle commented on the findings: "This research demonstrates a real variety in popular games including modern game adaptations, without forgetting about the iconic classics. In fact, if on one hand the list is topped by "The Last of Us", which is the most recent adaptation of an extremely popular game, at the same time it figures names like "Pokémon", which started airing in 1997 and counts a whopping 1,228 episodes to this day and is one of the most popular anime of the world."
