January 26, 2023 (Investorideas.com Newswire) New research has revealed the most popular consoles in every US state, with the Nintendo Switch being the most popular in 19 states.
The study by online casino guide Japan-101 analyzed Google Search data to see which consoles were most popular in each state across the past twelve months.
It found that the Nintendo Switch was the most popular console in 19 states, most notably Texas, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Despite the original edition of the console being released way back in 2017, Nintendo's handheld flagship remains incredibly popular and a top choice for many demographics alike, and this popularity among more casual gamers shot up through COVID-19 lockdowns.
The PlayStation 5 was found to be the most popular console in a very close 18 states, most notably California, Florida, and New York. Sony's entry into the next generation of gaming is still in incredible demand since its release in 2020. This demand is showing no signs of slowing, with consistent restocking of the console not yet available at many retailers nationwide.
The study also found that the Xbox Series X was the most popular console in 12 states, most notably Indiana, Missouri, and Kentucky. Released at a similar time to Sony's PS5 in 2020, the Xbox Series X and the Series S have both seen incredible demand. However, compared to the PS5, they have been easier to buy in many territories, and many gamers have made the change from Sony to Microsoft as a result.
The research also analyzed which states were most likely to search for each console. The Nintendo Switch was searched the most by Utah, Hawaii, and Oregon residents. The PS5 was searched more in California, Louisiana, and Florida than any other state. Additionally, the Xbox Series X received the most searches from South Dakota, Montana, and Virginia.
Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for Japan-101 said: "It's fascinating to see how popular the Nintendo Switch is despite being six years old this year, and how it's still competing in demand with the PS5 and Series X despite fewer and far from frequent restocking of Sony and Microsoft's counterparts. With many rumors circulating about the next console from Nintendo over the past couple of years, the company will be delighted if it can replicate the enduring popularity of the Switch."
