Zacks Investment Research Review: 30 Years of Success
October 25, 2022 (Investorideas.com Newswire) The modern investor has many different platforms to choose from when trying to invest online. We've covered many of these platforms so far in different articles, but today we'll be taking a look at a company that started before the internet even existed! Throughout this Zacks Investment Research review, you'll learn who this platform is for, which services it can offer, and why you might want to consider giving it a try. Can it hold its own against more recent platforms? Let's find out!
History & Background
The driving force behind Zacks Investment Research began in the 1970s with economist Len Zacks. Using his own statistical models-which were designed to accurately predict stock prices-Len finally formed Zacks Investment Research in 1978. Since then, the company has been providing investment recommendations based purely on mathematics to its clientele. Unlike alternative services such as Motley Fool, Zacks Investment Research doesn't gather its own data. Instead, it accumulates data from 185 different brokerage firms and analyzes the data to make recommendations. Historically, it's performed quite well, offering an average return of 25% (Zacks Ranks Strong Buys) for 30 years running.
Investing Style
Every stock Zacks analyzes is rated from "Strong Buy" to "Strong Sell." The company determines a stock's final rating based on a small variety of factors: "Agreement", "Magnitude", "Upside", and "Surprise."
- Agreement tracks the percentage of analysts that predict the same direction for a stock.
- Magnitude measures the estimated revised earning estimates of a stock.
- Upside compares the consensus estimate against the individual estimate that Zacks believes is most accurate.
- Surprise predicts how much a particular stock will "surprise" analysts with its future performance.
Services, Plans, & Prices
Zacks provides stock, options, ETF, crypto, and other types of asset recommendations to its subscribers. Since Zacks is always analyzing the latest market data, its stock suggestions often change, making it a service optimal for the active individual investor. However, it's this reactive approach that's given Zacks continual success throughout the years! In addition to recommendations, the platform also has educational materials and various investing tools available.
No Zacks Investment Research review is complete without going over the specific services offered (and their prices). While the yearly subscription costs for Zacks packages can get quite expensive, it's important to remember that you don't necessarily need to go "Ultimate" to see positive results!
ZACKS Premium ($249/year)
The Premium plan grants access to many of Zacks cornerstone services, including daily stock rankings, research reports, long-term portfolio recommendations, and the Zacks #1 Rank List.
ZACKS Investor Collection ($495/year)
The Investor Collection gives subscribers instant access to a variety of tools, reports, and services. Some notable mentions include ZACKS "Stocks Under $10," "ETF Investor," and "Zacks Top 10 Stocks."
ZACKS Ultimate ($2,995/year)
This program unlocks all of the Zacks recommendation services. Even services that aren't currently accepting new subscriptions can be unlocked through the ZACKS Ultimate program! "Black Box Trader," "Marijuana Innovators," and "Zacks Confidential" are just a few of the services that the Ultimate plan unlocks.
Research Wizard ($1,800/year)
This software is designed for screening and backtesting. Capable of backtesting up to six years prior, Research Wizard can help you "find winning stocks in any market," whether you're investing for the short or long term.
ZACKS Method for Trading ($39)
This online home study course is designed to help you identify what type of trader you are, pick stocks effectively, apply trading strategies, and-ultimately-design your own trading strategies. You'll also get a hard copy of the book Finding Number #1 Stocks, shipped to you free of charge.
Alternatives
In general, Zacks Invest Research is designed with the active investor in mind. While the amount of analytical data it offers isn't quite up to par with rivaling services like Seeking Alpha, it maintains the advantage by providing specific stock buy & sell recommendations in addition to data. However, more "hands-off" investors might find the constant stream of buy & sell recommendations to be a deterrent. For long-term investors, Motley Fool-which provides monthly recommendations and focuses on holding assets for at least five years-could be a viable alternative.
Our Zacks Investment Research Review Summary
We hope you've learned a thing or two from this Zacks Investment Research review! The platform has a proven track record, surviving and thriving throughout the last three decades of market turmoil. While the combination of analyzation and reactive trading may not be ideal for hands-off traders, anyone who actively trades can gain a lot of value from this platform. If you're not 100% convinced about the platform yet, Zacks even offers trials on most of their subscription services. This should give you ample time to test out the service(s)! With a consistent return of 25% over the last 30 years, why wouldn't you want to give Zachs a try!?
