Ski for Fire EXPEDITION - A 250 mile journey across the frozen Minnesota wilderness to help the Lakota stay warm @OneSpiritLakota
1 man, 250 miles, subzero temperatures... Ty Olson begins his journey to keep the Lakota warm
February 8, 2021 (Investorideas.com Newswire) ONE Spirit, (http://nativeprogress.org) a Native American service organization founded to assist and support American Indians announces Ski for Fire, an expedition to remind us that the American experiment has left many Native peoples impoverished and cold.
Ty's journey will follow an ancient water route that was historically used by many of these Native peoples - including the Lakota and Dakota. Today, the land is still used by bands of the Ojibwe people where they hunt, fish, and gather wild rice.
The expedition follows an ancient water route used by Indigenous peoples including the ancestors of the Lakota and Dakota people.
255 MILES 4 WEEKS 150 LB SLED
35 LAKES 9 RIVERS 26 PORTAGES

The route, an east-to-west traverse of Voyageurs National Park and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, remains relatively untouched in winter. Extreme cold, dangerous ice, rapids, and strong winds have long challenged the winter traveller.
You can follow along with Ty's epic undertaking on the Ski For Fire website, just click on "Live Updates" at the top of the page. Ty will be traveling through extremely remote areas in extreme conditions (it's forecasted to be -31 degrees Fahrenheit when he leaves,) so this map will be the best way to follow his progress - with Ty posting photo updates when possible.
Ty Olson - "Join me and learn the truth about cultural genocide and our role as settlers in the theft of Native lands-and how this still impacts all of us today."

About One Spirit https://www.onespiritlakota.org/
The One Spirit Mission is to assist the Lakota people in preserving and revitalizing the Lakota culture, language, and self-sufficiency while meeting the basic needs of Lakota families, children, and elders. We strive to cultivate an intercultural relationship that recognizes that we are all related and that American Indians are an equal and valued part of our society. The goal of all programs is to reduce or eliminate hunger, to replace the high school drop out and suicide rates among youth with an enthusiasm for learning and a pride in their Lakota heritage, and to provide protection from the winter cold that can drop to 40 below zero.
One Spirit is a federally registered non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
