Electricity procurement contracts down 11% in December 2019

 

January 14, 2020 (Investorideas.com Newswire) Electricity procurement contracts in December 2019 saw 47 contracts announced, marking a drop of 11% over the last 12-month average of 53, according to GlobalData's power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 36 contracts and a 76.6% share
  2. Project Implementation: seven contracts and a 14.9% share
  3. Electricity Supply: four contracts and an 8.5% share.

Europe leads electricity procurement activity in December 2019

Comparing contracts activity in electricity procurement segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 18 contracts and a share of 38.3% during December 2019, followed by North America with ten contracts and a 21.3% share and Asia-Pacific with nine contracts and a 19.1% share.

Solar is leading technology for electricity procurement contracts in December 2019

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 31 contracts with a 64.6% share, followed by wind with 14 contracts and a 29.2% share and thermal with one contract and a 2.1% share.

Electricity procurement contracts in December 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Egyptian Electricity Transmission (Egypt): 700MW from two contracts
  2. Amazon Web Services (United States): 321MW from three contracts
  3. Statkraft (Norway): 252MW capacity from one contract.

Electricity procurement contracts in December 2019: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. AMEA Power (United Arab Emirates): 700MW from two contracts
  2. Solaria Energia y Medio Ambiente (Spain): 357MW from two contracts
  3. EDF Renewables North America (United States): 232MW capacity from two contracts.
