The crypto market has continued its recent bull run, having gained another $10 billion in market capitalization since yesterday's episode to make for a total of about $276 billion USD at press time, according to data from CoinMarketCap. Bitcoin (BTC), which is trading for just over $9,800 at press time, has not only reached a peak trading price for 2020, but is also trading at its highest since September, 2019. It remains to be seen whether the flagship cryptocurrency will surpass the $10,000 support level, which was achieved on and off again across last summer.

Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE:ICE) has agreed to acquire loyalty solutions provider Bridge2 Solutions. Upon acquisition, Intercontinental Exchange's digital asset subsidiary, Bakkt, will acquire Bridge2 to "accelerate the development of the Bakkt consumer application," providing "digital asset aggregation, conversion and payments through a single platform for consumers around the world." Mike Blandina, CEO of Bakkt, explained:

"With the launch of the Bakkt app, we will, for the first time, offer consumers a robust platform to consolidate and use all of their digital assets, from crypto to loyalty points to in game tokens, in one user-friendly wallet. Combining Bridge2 Solutions' embedded relationships with banks and merchants and their innovative Loyalty Pay solution will enable us to launch new products that further drive loyalty and empower consumers to trade, transfer and spend digital assets in entirely new ways."

Venture divisions of Salesforce (NYSE:CRM) and Samsung (KSE:005930) are participating in the second closing of a Series C funding round for startup Digital Asset, following a $35 million initial closing. Digital Asset is the creator of the DAML (Digital Asset Modeling Language) smart contract language, which, through this fundraising aims "to accelerate the adoption of the DAML smart contract language across multiple industries, expand the number and variety of DAML-enabled partner products and fund new products designed to enhance the DAML developer experience."A spokesperson from Samsung Venture Investment Corp., commented:

"We strongly believe that Digital Asset's model to embed DAML in partner platforms fundamentally changes the entire blockchain market. Digital Asset has positioned itself for success in the blockchain space and we are pleased to help it achieve its vision."

Lael Brainard, a member of the U.S. Federal Reserve, indicated that the central bank was increasingly open to the idea of CBDCs (central bank digital currencies) in a speech given at the Symposium on the Future of Payments, Stanford, California. An excerpt from the speech reads:

"Given the dollar's important role, it is essential that we remain on the frontier of research and policy development regarding CBDC. Like other central banks, we are conducting research and experimentation related to distributed ledger technologies and their potential use case for digital currencies, including the potential for a CBDC. We are collaborating with other central banks as we advance our understanding of central bank digital currencies."
