Smart Tech, Smart Workforce, 60th IC Anniversary to Highlight SEMICON Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan - July 30, 2018 ( Newswire) Marking the 60th anniversary of the integrated circuit, SEMICON Taiwan 2018 takes aim at the future with the latest technologies and developments in smart manufacturing and smart automotive, Internet of Things (IoT), smart medtech, MEMS and sensors, and other industry growth drivers. Themed the "Future Starts Here," SEMICON Taiwan, 5-7 September, will be held at Taipei's Nangang Exhibition Center, featuring over 1,900 booths, 650 exhibitors, and more than 45,000 attendees from the global electronics manufacturing supply chain. Today, ICs are at the heart of every electronic device consumers use in their daily lives including PCs, laptops, mobile phones, refrigerators and televisions. To commemorate the IC, SEMICON Taiwan, working with MOST (Ministry of Science & Technology), will feature the "IC 60 years - Master Forum." Taiwan semiconductor industry luminaries including Dr. Morris Chang, founder of TSMC, will highlight the pioneering spirit and tenacious pursuit of smaller, faster, lower-power devices that have given rise to today's ICs and are critical to future advances.

According to the SEMI Mid-Year Forecast, Taiwan is in the top three regions for equipment market consumption with expectations for solid growth in 2018 and $12.3 billion in investments in 2019. According to the SEMI Material Market Data Report, Taiwan's semiconductor materials consumption totaled US$10.3 billion in 2017 − the highest of any region in the world - as the semiconductor industry expansion continues on the strength of demand for leading-edge technologies and applications including autonomous driving and artificial intelligence (AI) as well as mainstay products such as smartphones and PCs.

"As SEMICON Taiwan celebrates its 23nd year, the exhibition area will focus on the five major semiconductor market applications: Smart Manufacturing, Smart Transportation, Smart Data, Smart Medtech and IoT," said Terry Tsao, president of SEMI Taiwan. "Spanning the entire electronics manufacturing ecosystem, this year's SEMICON Taiwan will provide key insights into market trends and trailblazing technologies while offering forums and business-matching activities for collaboration and new opportunities."

Theme and Regional Pavilions Focus on Innovation and Opportunities

SEMICON Taiwan features 12 theme pavilions, two new pavilions and eight regional pavilions to promote cross-border collaboration. The 22 pavilions include:

Smart Manufacturing and Smart Workforce Pavilions

Debuting at SEMICON Taiwan, the Smart Manufacturing Journey pavilion will highlight future trends and opportunities in smart semiconductor manufacturing with demonstrations by TSMC, UMC and ASE. Artificial Intelligence (AI), other key enabling technologies and best smart manufacturing practices will be showcased by industry leaders including ABB, Advantech, GPM, nVIDIA, Qualtera, Sony, UPS.
