Soneva Foundation Partners With Cleaner Climate The Fund The Myanmar Stoves Project
New York - November 27, 2018 (Investorideas.com Newswire) Soneva, the world-leading luxury resort operator, has launched the Soneva Foundation's partnership with Cleaner Climate to raise funds to distribute fuel-efficient stoves to families in Myanmar through the Myanmar Stoves Project. Buyers of "stove credits" will be entered into a prize drawing for the chance to win one of three all-inclusive, five-night holidays at Soneva resorts in the Maldives, with the total prize value exceeding US$68,000.
Myanmar has one of the fastest rates of deforestation in the world, where most of the wood that is cut down is used for domestic cooking. Four million people die worldwide every year from household air pollution which is predominantly caused by burning fuel indoors to cook with. By using fuel-efficient stoves, families can reduce their wood consumption by 50% and save 2.5 tons of wood per year, reduce the smoke and soot pollution by 80%, and reduce their carbon emissions by 60% as a direct result of cutting down less trees.
The Myanmar Stoves Project is the first Gold Standard Foundation certified carbon project in Myanmar. The "stove credits," also known as carbon credits, are the emission reduction equivalent of one ton of carbon dioxide. The sale of carbon credits provides the necessary funding required to scale this project, while simultaneously reducing future deforestation, air pollution-related health risks and carbon dioxide emissions. Over the next five years, the Soneva Foundation plans to distribute fuel-efficient stoves to more than 200,000 families, reaching almost one million rural Myanmar residents. To date, more than 20,000 stoves have already been deployed.
The Myanmar Stove Project and the Soneva Foundation's impact
Soneva's partnership with Cleaner Climate - recognized as Southeast Asia's leading adviser on clean-energy carbon-credit revitalization strategies and Australia's leader on creative carbon-offsetting initiatives - aims to raise awareness and encourage funding of the Myanmar Stoves Project with this dream vacation prize drawing. Donors who purchase "stove credits" are eligible to win one of three five-night trips to Soneva Fushi or Soneva Jani resorts in the Maldives, including: Prize One, a stay for two people in a One Bedroom Overwater Retreat with Water Slide at Soneva Jani (valued at US$27,000); or Prizes Two and Three, stays for two people in a Villa Suite with Pool at Soneva Fushi (each valued at US$20,850). Each prize also includes business class airfares from the winner's closest capital city, transfers to and from the resort, as well as US$2,500 in spending vouchers redeemable at the resort.
The competition is now live and will run until the 600,000 stove credits have been sold. The prizes will be drawn at different times: Prize One - January 26, 2019 00:01am AEST; Prize Two - May 26, 2019 00:01 AEST; and Prize Three - October 23, 2019 00:01 AEST. Stove credits, which each cost US$13, can be bought in batches of one, two, three, 10, 15 and 20. For each stove credit purchased, participants will receive one entry into the competition.
