Rooney to Join MLS, NBA’s Conference Finals and Palmeiro Returns to Professional Baseball

English Premier League footballer Wayne Rooney is joining Major League Soccer (MLS) team D.C. United in a £12 million GBP deal according to ESPN. Rooney, who currently plays for Liverpool's Everton F.C., has the option to move to the U.S. to play once his contract has expired.

"Sources have told ESPN FC that Rooney, who joined Everton on a two-year deal last summer, has the option of a third year on that contract, and a move away from Goodison Park is yet to be confirmed."

The NBA playoffs are down to the final four, with the Boston Celtics narrowly beating and eliminating the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 5 last night 114-112. A piece in the Associated Press notes the brevity of the conference semifinals:

"Boston's win over Philadelphia on Wednesday night brought down the curtain on the postseason's second round - one that wasn't exactly loaded with drama, since it was the first time since 2002 that none of the NBA's four conference semifinal series went past five games. Cleveland swept Toronto, while Houston, Golden State and the Celtics all prevailed by 4-1 counts."

The next game and first match in the conference finals will be Cleveland at Boston on Sunday, followed by Golden State at Houston on Monday.

Former MLB player, Rafael Palmeiro, is returning to professional baseball after being absent since playing for the Baltimore Orioles in 2005. Palmeiro, a four-time MLB All Star joins his son, Patrick, after signing with independent American Association team, the Cleburne Railroaders, according to a report on Dallas Morning News Sports Day.
