Investor Ideas talks to CEO of Nature's Dream about its marijuana strain finder app - Cannacopia

Mike Weiss, CEO and founder of Nature's Dream, Inc, and its popular marijuana strain finder app Cannacopia, has confirmed more features are on the way for the software.

The app currently enables users to find information on strains and where to buy them, and also lets them rate and review different strains they've tried. Weiss said the new feature, which they intend to implement by 2018, will find the best deals for the user and even allow them to complete the transaction itself through the app.

"We have another aspect of Cannacopia we're working on which we hope to have up by the end of the year which is our Cannacopia Marketplace," he said.

"We'll search for the best deal in your area for what you're looking for, and then the user can decide where they'd like to purchase it and do the entire transaction within Cannacopia, and either pick up their merchandise or have it delivered."

Weiss was originally inspired to create the app after going into a dispensary and experiencing firsthand the shortcomings of existing strain finding apps. The apps available at the time only allowed the user to search individual strains one by one in a vast database, which Weiss found time consuming and not very user-friendly. Weiss said that Cannacopia stands out by reversing the process and recommending strains based on the user's needs and desires.

"It's not so much the name of the strain that matters, it's the way you want to feel," he said. "Instead of typing in strain names, we have four different buttons representing different characteristics: your mental mood, your physical effect, your medical condition and your taste preference. You press 'go' and then we recommend the strains that will make you feel the way you want."

In a press conference for Cannacopia last September, Weiss talked about "global legalization of marijuana" being "on the horizon". Despite people like Attorney General Jeff Sessions being strongly against legalization of marijuana, Weiss is not worried about Republicans standing in the way of increased liberalization, but rather is excited about the future of working in cannabis.

"The GOP platform is all about States' rights, so it would be kind of odd for them to say that the states should decide everything except cannabis," he said. "We are at a unique moment in history and a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in a market that's emerging from 80 years of prohibition."

Cannacopia does not yet feature dispensaries in Canada, where federal marijuana legalization is expected by July  2018. Weiss said, however, that "they will be included probably within the next 30 to 45 days."
