NJBPU Continues Statewide Tour of Proposed Town Center Distributed Energy Resource Microgrid in Galloway Township

Study to explore most commercially-viable technologies including solar, combined heat and power ("CHP"), thermal loops and water exchange systems

September 8, 2017 (Investorideas.com Newswire) New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (Board) President Richard S. Mroz will announce the commencement of a feasibility study for the proposed Town Center Microgrid in Galloway Township. The project supports New Jersey's Clean Energy Program ™ (NJCEP) and the Christie Administration's Energy Master Plan (EMP). The Board recently approved $2 million dollars in NJCEP funding for 13 applications for Town Center Microgrid feasibility studies at various entities throughout the state.

PRESS

CONFERENCE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2017 10:00 AM

WHAT:

The Press Conference will highlight the program developed to provide incentives for local and state government agencies, such as Galloway, to investigate the feasibility of building Town Center Microgrids. Applicants were limited to local government entities or state agencies that own or manage critical facilities.

Microgrid technology is an innovative example of the Christie Administration's commitment to its EMP policies. The focus is to improve energy infrastructures resiliency and emergency preparedness and response in the event of future extreme weather events, such as Superstorm Sandy. The crippling storm left some New Jersey residents and businesses without power for up to three weeks.

WHO:

Galloway Township's proposal will examine the potential of using a town center microgrid to connect the Galloway Town Hall and police station, AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, two assisted living facilities, Stockton University, Reeds Elementary School, Roland Elementary schools, Galloway Middle School and Absegami High School and a ShopRite. The applicant will evaluate most commercially-viable technologies, such as fuel cells, energy storage systems, solar, combined heat and power ("CHP"), thermal loops, and water exchange systems.

The estimated time to complete the feasibility study is 12 months. The total incentive amount is $175,000.
