January 17, 2014 (www.investorideas.com newswire) Today, the data for Producer Price Index was released in the US; December 2013 saw a 0.4% increase (MoM) in the PPI, the same value the market expected. The PPI value for the previous month had been -0.1% (MoM).
According to results published today, the NY Empire Manufacturing survey surged to 12.51. This value is well above the market expectation of 3.50, and represents the highest value since May 2012. The survey was also revised for December, from a 0.98 initially reported up to 2.22. This report is published by the Federal Reserve Branch in New York, and only includes firms from New York, New Jersey and southern Connecticut.
In the US, markets had a positive response; the S&P 500 increased 0.52% and the DJIA increased 0.66%.
