Research In Motion Limited (TSX:BB) trading at $16.410 gained $0.430 or 2.69% on a volume of 4,520,131 shares.
T-Mobile USA announced that its tests of the new BlackBerry Z10 are going well and it's aiming to be the first American carrier "out of the gate" with the phone next month.
The encouraging words come a week after BlackBerry unveiled the new phone, which is already on sale in the U.K. and Canada. BlackBerry, formerly known as Research In Motion Ltd., didn't give a firm U.S. release date, saying the Z10 would be available sometime in March.
The U.S. is BlackBerry's largest single market, and the company is counting on the new phone to win back customers lost to Apple Inc.'s iPhone and Google Inc.'s Android.
T-Mobile USA, based in Bellevue, Washington, will offer the Z10 for $199. The touch-screen device should be available to business customers about a week before retail sales start.
Manulife Financial Corporation (TSX:MFC) trading at $14.510 moved up $0.100 or 0.69% on a volume of 3,394,982 shares.
Manulife Financial Corp., Canada's largest insurer, posted fourth-quarter net income of C$1.06 billion ($1.06 billion) as wealth-management revenue in Asia reached a record.
Profit was 56 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier net loss of C$69 million, or 5 cents; the company had expected to earn 32 cents a share, according to the average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News.
Profit more than doubled in Asia to C$682 million as premiums and deposits increased. The company's Asian markets including China, Malaysia and Singapore will become the fastest-growing segment of the company's earnings, due to demand for wealth-management and pension products.
B2Gold Corp., (TSX:BTO) trading at $3.700 gained $0.030 or 0.82% on a volume of 2,472,115 shares.
B2Gold Corp., is pleased to announce the successful completion of the merger by which B2Gold has acquired all of the issued ordinary shares of CGA Mining Limited. As of earlier today, and including the 251,973,927 shares issued as consideration under the Merger for the former share and option holders of CGA, B2Gold has 645,383,200 shares issued and outstanding.
Confirmations of holdings will shortly be sent to the former holders of CGA shares and options receiving the Merger consideration in the form of shares.
Kinross Gold Corp., (TSX:K) trading at $8.360 rose by $0.160 or 1.95% on a volume of 2,469,186 shares.
