Suncor Energy Inc., (TSX:SU) trading at $32.530 dropped by $-1.850 or -5.38% on a volume of 6,968,070 shares.
Suncor Energy Inc., Canada's largest energy company by market value, reported its first quarterly loss in 3 1/2 years after a charge of C$1.49 billion ($1.5 billion) related to its Voyageur oil project in the province of Alberta, which may face cancellation.
The net loss in the fourth quarter was C$562 million, or 37 cents a share, the biggest in at least two decades, compared with net income of C$1.43 billion, or 91 cents, a year ago, the company announced yesterday in a statement that also disclosed it faces a possible C$1.2 billion tax bill. Operating earnings fell 30 percent to C$1 billion.
The Voyageur upgrader project, being built by Suncor and France's Total SA, will process about 269,000 barrels a day of bitumen from the Fort Hills and Joslyn mines, according to Total E&P Canada Ltd.'s website. The plant will use the heavy bitumen to produce 218,000 barrels a day of synthetic crude oil.
EMC Metals Corp., (TSX:EMC) trading at $0.085 moved up $0.050 or 142.86% on a volume of 5,607,940 shares.
EMC Metals Corp. announced it has agreed an out of court settlement to its dispute with Jervois Mining Limited in relation to the Nyngan Scandium project in NSW, Australia. The terms of the settlement transfer 100% ownership and control of the Nyngan Scandium project to EMC, in return for cash payments and a percentage royalty payable to Jervois on sales of product from the project.
Torc Oil and Gas Ltd., (TSX:TOG) trading at $2.120 gained $0.050 or 2.42% on a volume of 3,360,259 shares.
