Outdoor Channel Holdings Inc., (NASDAQ:OUTD) trading at $8.67 gained $1.12 or 14.87% on a volume of 531,289 shares, making it today's top percentage gainer on the NASDAQ.
Outdoor Channel Holdings Inc., the owner of a cable-TV network with hunting and fishing programs, said it received an unsolicited $227 million takeover bid from Kroenke Sports & Entertainment LLC.
The $8.75-a-share cash offer appears to be superior to the TV-network company's previously announced plan to merge with InterMedia Outdoor Holdings Inc., Outdoor Channel announced earlier today in a statement. The board has authorized talks with Kroenke.
The new offer may thwart closely held InterMedia's plan to produce a new publicly traded company combining its Sportsman Channel and 15 magazines with Outdoor Channel. InterMedia had offered Outdoor Channel investors a choice of $8 cash a share, a new share of the new company or a combination of $4.46 in cash and 0.443 shares.
InterMedia said earlier today in a statement that Kroenke's bid isn't a superior offer, based on the value of comparable companies and the savings InterMedia would get by combining with Outdoor Channel.
Clovis Oncology Inc., (NASDAQ:CLVS) trading at $24.64 rose by $2.83 or 12.98% on a volume of 89,549 shares.
Internet Initiative Japan Inc., (NASDAQ:IIJI) trading at $14.48 moved up $1.03 or 7.66% on a light volume of 8,750 shares.
Albany Molecular Research Inc., (NASDAQ:AMRI) trading at $8.68 gained $0.68 or 8.50% on a volume of 597,766 shares.
AMRI announced earlier today that it has promoted Takeshi Yura, Ph.D., to Vice President of Discovery and Development Services, Asia. Dr. Yura will report directly to Thomas E. D'Ambra, Ph.D., Chairman, President and CEO.
Dr. Yura joined AMRI in January 2011 and most recently served as Senior Director of Drug Discovery services in Singapore, leading the chemistry and biology teams of AMRI's flagship Asian integrated drug discovery operations. Effective immediately, Dr. Yura has also assumed leadership of AMRI's Discovery and Development efforts at AMRI's Hyderabad, India site.
Dr. Yura brings to this role more than 22 years of scientific and leadership experience in discovery research, project management and business development. Before joining AMRI, he was a director at Dishman Japan Ltd., responsible for sales and all business development activities for contract manufacturing services. Before that, he served as discovery chemistry research head at Pfizer Japan, dedicated primarily to the areas of pain and gastrointestinal drug discovery. Prior to Pfizer, he served as section head, medicinal chemistry at Bayer Yakuhin in Japan focused on urology and asthma. He has held additional scientific roles at both Ciba Geigy Japan and Tanabe Seiyaku. Dr. Yura obtained a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry at the University of Tokyo, working with Professor Teruaki Mukaiyama until his retirement and with Professor Koichi Narasaka. He also holds an M.B.A. from the Temple University Tokyo.
