WASHINGTON, D.C. - September 10, 2012 (Investorideas.com renewable energy newswire) Each major wind farm in the United States supports more than a thousand jobs and pumps new revenues, tax dollars and opportunities into local communities across the country, according to two new reports from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) set for release at 10 a.m.
The reports detail each and every job created in the 14-step supply chain that goes into a typical wind farm. They also detail specific benefits that wind energy are pumping into communities across America, from manufacturing hubs in Central Ohio to wind farms in Northern Oregon.
Wind energy accounted for one-third of all new power added in the United States in the past five years and could contribute up to 20 percent of U.S. energy by 2030. More than 75,000 Americans now work in the wind energy industry.
Unfortunately, this tremendous economic and environmental potential is jeopardy because of politically driven threats to let the 2.2 cents per kilowatt hour Production Tax Credit (PTC) expire just as the wind industry is hitting its stride.
Speakers will detail what types of jobs are at risk and what types of community benefits could be cut if Congress doesn't renew the PTC after it returns to work on Monday, Sept. 10.
