Frankfurt am Main - September 28, 2012 (www.investorideas.com newswire) Nanostart AG, a leading nanotechnology investment company, generated EBITDA adjusted for non-recurring items of €1,064k in the first half of 2012. This represents a 10% increase as compared to the same period of the previous year (€967k). Total operating performance was improved by 9% to €2,395k as against the first half of 2011. This includes income from sales of financial assets, particularly from the off-market sale of share in the equity investment MagForce AG. In addition, income from loans of financial assets and interest and similar income in the amount of €724k (previous year: €628k) made a positive contribution to earnings.
As of the end of the first half of the year, a write-down of €4,028k (previous year: €0) was recognized on financial assets. This relates to the carrying amount and the shareholder loans granted to the equity investment Holmenkol, and results in a net loss for the half-year period under the German Commercial Code (HGB) in the amount of €2,370k (previous year: net profit of €1,537 thousand).
Equity decreased from €37,485k at the end of 2011 to €35,115k. However, the equity ratio remains at a high level of 88% (previous year: 90%).
Operating activities in the first half of 2012 focused on stepping up business in Asia and further development of the largest portfolio-holding MagForce AG.
