On November 4th, 2012, Lakota Marathon Runners will compete in the prestigious New York Marathon. Judging from their performance in the Badlands half-marathon, they aim to win back New York City.
Three of the five Lakota young people who will be participating in NYC, competed in the half-marathon. In a field of about 50 runners, Nupa White Plume, Kelsey Good Lance, and Alex Pine took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishing the 13.1 miles in 1 hour and 37 minutes - that's a time of 7 minutes per mile.
The New York City Marathon
Amanda Carlow has become the fifth member of Team One Spirit and joins Nupa White Plume, Kelsey Good Lance, Alex Pine, and Jeff Turning Heart Jr. in the New York Marathon in November.The runners from Pine Ridge are truly modern day heroes/heroines who are competing in the most prestigious marathon in the world to raise funds for a Youth Center and youth programs. Through the sacrifice and hard work of the Lakota Five, the goal is to raise $18,000.
