Share Price of Water Purification Manufacturers Show Gains as Tsunami Disaster Relief Gains Momentum

POINT ROBERTS, Wash., Jan 3rd, 2005 – www.Water-Stocks.com

January 3rd, 2005 – www.WaterStocks.com -- North American investors, anticipating a surge in demand, have caused the share prices of several water purification manufacturers to jump dramatically over the past week. Three companies in particular have experienced share price gains in the past few days: Euro Tech Holdings Company Limited (CLWT) a distributor of a range of advanced water treatment equipment; Strategic Diagnostics Inc. (SDIX) a manufacturer of immunoassay and bioluminescence-based test kits for detection of a variety of substances in water; and, Aquacell Technologies, Inc. (AQA) which is engaged in the manufacture and sale of water filtration and purification products.

The share price and trading volume of each of these companies peaked on December 28th and then dipped slightly in the days following, (see figures 1 and 2 below for details).

Worldwide, a large scale relief effort is being undertaken with funds for disaster aid pouring in. The US government is providing $35million, with corporate donations already surpassing that amount. Aid funds will be used in part to provide water purification products to treat the region’s water supply. In response, Wisconsin Pharmacal, the world's leading producer of iodine-based water purification tablets is donating more than 10,000 bottles of EPA- approved Potable Aqua(R) water purification tablets to relief organizations.

The World Health Organization said in a statement on December 28th, that clean water is the key to avoiding the spread of fatal diseases for survivors of the tsunami throughout the affected regions bordering the Indian Ocean. The WHO said that starvation and the lack of clean water could result in as many or more fatalities than the actual tsunami. Survivors forced to drink water from contaminated sources could be exposed to diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid fever and shigellosis - as well as liver diseases like hepatitis A and E.
