Solar stocks have certainly handily out-performed the general market averages since the beginning of June and are slightly underperforming year to date. But there are a number of warning signs appearing that investors should be aware of:

  • The market in general is fairly overbought and is likely to at least correct back to the mean. Markets can stay overbought for quite a while, but this one is approaching 100% overbought so it is at the very least a time for caution.
  • A large number of solar stocks have recently reversed their momentum from positive to negative. This portends at least some form of pullback for the strongest stocks and possibly worse for the weaker stocks. ** See the new “ Solar Stock Technical Review” table for updates on which stocks are technically strong, which are neutral and which are weak.
  • As you can see from the table below - the majority of our stocks have dropped BELOW their 50 day moving average, a sign of short term weakness that usually proves to be quite accurate. Keep in mind that a month ago almost ALL our stock were trading ABOVE their 50 day moving average. Now only 10 are trading above and all of these are very close to going below their 50 day averages.
