Driving Green, A tale of two batteries …

Battery Manufacturers Altair and Advanced Battery Technologies compete in the Electric Vehicle Market

Two companies providing batteries for the electric vehicle market – Altair Nano and Advanced Battery Technologies have attracted interest from investors and industry partners. The stocks are currently performing differently as one approaches new highs and one settles off old highs. Does the market tell the story?

Advanced Battery Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: ABAT) recently announced that it has entered into a cooperation agreement with Wuxi Anjiu Bicycle Co., Ltd. of China, a company that currently produces 600,000 bicycles and motorcycles annually for sale in 48 countries worldwide. The agreement calls for ABAT to work with Wuxi to help it transition its electric vehicle products from lead acid batteries to ABAT's advanced rechargeable PLI batteries. ABAT also has aligned with Electric car pioneer ZAP (OTCBB: ZAAP), opening a joint development office in Beijing to expand their research, manufacturing and marketing of advanced batteries for electric cars using the latest in nanotechnology. ZAP recently announced a purchase agreement to buy $5.168 Million in lithium-polymer and nanotech batteries from Advance Battery Technologies for use in their XEBRA electric cars and trucks as well as other vehicles and battery systems.

ZAP (OTCBB: ZAAP) has been a leader in advanced transportation technologies since 1994, delivering over 100,000 vehicles to consumers in more than 75 countries.

Advanced Battery Technologies’ stock has performed extremely well for investors in the past month moving up from its $3.00 base to over $4 as the company has announced its new partners in the electric vehicle market.

Altair Nanotechnologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ALTI) with its Altairnano NanoSafe battery has aligned and take ownership in California based, Phoenix Motorcars. Phoenix is targeting a different market than some of the other electric vehicle manufacturers with its all-electric sport utility trucks designed for the fleet market. The vehicles are expected to hit the market next year followed by consumer markets, possibly in 2009.

Altair’s stock has had some strong runs, being the first in the public market for investors, but has recently settled in around $3.00, off from its highs of over $4 earlier this year .
