From January to November of 2008, the sales value of the special equipment manufacturing industry for environmental protection and social public security was RMB 103.410 billion, growing by 27.66% YOY. The growth rates of special equipments for environmental protection and social public security fell by 9.66% YOY and 12.08% YOY.
Because of the waste material demand decrease of industrial enterprises and the sharp steel price decline, the growth of Chinese discarded resource and waste material recovery and processing industry slows down. From January to November of 2008, the total industrial output value reached RMB 87.120 billion, rising by 44.61% YOY. The growth rate decreased by 14.14% YOY.
Chinese manufacturing industry of the special medicament material for environmental pollution treatment is of small scale. In the first eleven months of 2008, the total industrial output value and sales value were RMB 8.275 billion and RMB 8.029 billion. The growth rates were 29.59% YOY and 27.46% YOY respectively. The growth rates fell obviously by 18.29% YOY and 21.88% YOY in 2008Q4.
At the end of 2008, Chinese central government newly invested RMB 12 billion to speed up the projects of energy saving & emission reduction and ecological construction, mainly including accelerating the polluted water and waste treatment facility construction in cities and towns, the water pollution treatment in major river valleys. Consequently, in 2009H1, the sales volume growth rate in the water special machinery manufacturing industry is relatively high in Chinese environmental protection equipment manufacturing industry.
Due to the financial crisis, the growth of Chinese environmental protection industry slowed down in 2009. The total output value of some industries declined. From January to May of 2009, Chinese special equipment manufacturing industry for environmental protection and social public security attained the total sales value of RMB 51.725 billion, rising by 16.45% YOY. The growth rate declined by 20.56% YOY. The sales value of the discarded resource and waste material recovery and processing industry was RMB 44.203 billion, increasing by 6.05% YOY. The growth rate fell by 48.33% YOY.
In 2009, the total sales revenue of Chinese manufacturing industry of the special medicament material for environmental pollution treatment saw prominent decline compared with that in the same period of the last year. The profitability of this industry also weakened. Both the sales revenue of the manufacturing industry of the special medicament material for environmental pollution treatment and the metal scrap processing industry reduced compared with that in the same period of the last year. The sales revenue decline in the manufacturing industry of the special medicament material for environmental pollution treatment mainly results from the grim price competition caused by the severe overcapacity and demand deficiency.
In 2009H1, Chinese environmental protection service industry performed well. From January to May of 2009, the sales revenue of Chinese polluted water treatment and regeneration industry and other water treatment and regeneration industry grew by 37.63% YOY and 10.51% YOY separately. The growth rates rose by 1.21% YOY and 4.93% YOY respectively.
Due to the continuous foreign demand decline, after February 2009, both the export volume and price of Chinese environmental protection equipment saw decline. In June 2009, the export volume of Chinese environmental protection equipment was 37,100, falling by 6.55% YOY. The average export price in June decreased to USD 47.82 each while that in the same period of the last year was USD 89.88 each.
The environmental protection industry is the major investment object of Chinese economic stimulus plan. In the RMB 4-trillion Stimulus Package (USD 571 billion) issued by Chinese central government at the end of 2008, the investment in the environmental protection industry takes up RMB 350 billion (USD 50 billion). It is estimated that China will invest a total amount of over RMB 1 trillion in the environmental protection. Therefore, there is bright prospect in Chinese environmental protection industry.
