Mariah Power’s exhibit will feature Windspire™, a 30-foot-tall, propeller-free, vertical-axis wind turbine designed for harnessing wind power in urban, suburban and rural locations, in operation. The unit’s powerful, sleek and aesthetically pleasing design allows it to blend in well with a variety of settings, making it an ideal renewable energy option for many home and business owners. As part of the company’s exhibit, Mariah Power has partnered with artist Susan Pascal Beran to install a series of wind-related kinetic sculptures around the Windspire, creating a dynamic and visually stimulating demonstration of wind power. Educational materials, including U.S. wind maps and information on how wind works will also be available for visitors.

“We are honored to exhibit Windspire at the U.S. Botanic Garden and to share in this important educational initiative,” said Mike Hess, CEO of Mariah Power. “This exhibit will expose visitors from around the world to the practical use of wind for powering homes and businesses. Beyond the sustainable benefits of renewable energy, Windspire introduces new elements of aesthetics, even artistry, to blend into a variety of landscape designs. The exhibit will highlight the sleek and understated Windspire design in the context of the Botanic Garden, demonstrating to people that sustainability can come without great sacrifices in lifestyle, and at prices that are very affordable.”

Among the more than 30 exhibitors in “One Planet – Ours! Sustainability for the 22nd Century” are the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, American Society of Landscape Architects, U.S. Department of Energy, American Horticultural Society, National Wildlife Federation, and many more. The exhibition will also feature “Cool Globes,” a sculpture exhibit of more than 40 large globes that serve as artistic representation of issues and solutions as related to global warming and sustainability.

About the United States Botanic Garden

The U.S. Botanic Garden (USBG) is under the jurisdiction of the Congress of the United States. It is located in Washington, D.C., on the U.S. Capitol Grounds. The USBG Conservatory, a large Lord & Burnham-designed greenhouse, is divided into separate rooms, each one simulating a different habitat. The USBG traces its beginning to 1816, when the constitution of the Columbian Institute for the Promotion of Arts and Sciences in Washington, D.C., proposed the creation of a botanic garden to collect, grow, and distribute plants of this and other countries that might contribute to the welfare of the American people. The Institute's garden was established by Congress in 1820 directly west of the U.S. Capitol. This facility functioned until shortly after the Institute stopped holding meetings in 1837. Then in 1842 the idea of a national botanic garden was reborn when the return of the United States Exploring Expedition (the “Wilkes Expedition”) brought to Washington a collection of living plants from around the globe. Placed initially in a specially constructed greenhouse behind the Old Patent Office Building, the plants were moved in late 1850 into a new structure on the site previously occupied by the Columbian Institute's garden. The Garden then was moved to its present location, just southwest of the U.S. Capitol, in 1933.

"We look forward to briefing investors and executives in New York regarding current trends and the plans of our new government as we accompany newly-elected Korean President Lee, Myung-bak during his first overseas visit to meet with President Bush and other US government and business leaders next month," noted Lee, Youn Ho, Minister of Knowledge Economy. "We intend to highlight the importance of the US-Korea bilateral relationship and the potential of the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA) -- which promises to significantly expand the already vibrant trade, investment and economic ties that exist between our two countries. Attention will also be devoted to demonstrating our deep commitment to building value-added and next-generation industries through further reductions of regulatory and other barriers to create a less burdensome, more transparent, and welcoming businesses environment - in which both foreign and domestic firms can thrive and prosper."
