SAIC plans $1.7b IPO

Defense research firm SAIC Inc. filed to go public on Thursday, Sept. 1,
registering to raise up to $1.73 billion to fund growth and provide
liquidity to its employee owners.
The San Diego-based company said in a filing with the Securities and
Exchange Commission it intends to sell an undisclosed number of shares in an
offering to be underwritten by Morgan Stanley and Bear Stearns & Co. Sarah
A. O'Dowd, Stephen C. Ferruolo and Ryan A. Murr of the law frm Heller Ehrman
LLP are representing the company in the offering, while Bruce K. Dallas and
Nigel D. J. Wilson at Davis Polk & Wardwell are serving as counsel to the
underwriters.
