SESI-VT Miltope Team Wins Five-Year Rugged Laptop Computer
Contract
Singapore, 8 December 2004 - VT Miltope, a US subsidiary of Singapore
Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering), today announced that its team has
won a five-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to
supply rugged laptop computers to the US Army. This IDIQ allows the US Army
the flexibility to acquire items defined in the contract, within stated
limits, over a five-year period.
The contract was awarded by the US Army's Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic
Equipment (TMDE) Program Office to the prime contractor, Science and
Engineering Services, Inc. (SESI). As SESI's primary subcontractor, the
value of VT Miltope's share is approximately US$200m (S$328m).
This contract is not expected to have any material impact on the
consolidated net tangible assets per share and earnings per share of ST
Engineering for the current financial year.
SESI and VT Miltope will work in concert to supply the Maintenance Support
Device - Version 2 (MSD-V2) system, based on the Maintenance Support
Device-TSC-750M (MSD) militarized laptop computer. Functional and
environmental testing will be completed during the first two years of the
contract. Full production and product delivery is projected to take place
during 2007-2009.
This contract follows an earlier award to supply about 11,000 of the
TSC-750-based MSD-V1 to the US Army. The MSD-V1 program is nearing
completion and many of these systems are already successfully deployed with
US troops in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.
The TSC-750M is designed to withstand the US Army's harshest tactical
environment for computer systems and will be used in forward areas under
extreme weather and handling conditions. The MSD-V2 will be used by the US
Army for on-system diagnostics and maintenance on all Army weapon systems,
generators, and wheeled and tracked vehicles.
This procurement provides for the US Army's next generation on-system test
set that incorporates technical, environmental, and ergonomic enhancements
to existing maintenance and diagnostic systems. The standard MSD-V2 system
contains a 13.3" or larger fully sunlight readable LCD display; removable 80
GB hard disk drive; and internally mounted floppy disk and DVD-RW/CD-RW
drives. The two internal removable LiIon batteries give the unit more than
eight hours of battery life - the key to the portability and flexibility of
the system in tactical situations. The TSC-750M magnesium composite
enclosure allows the unit to withstand a drop shock in excess of three feet
ensuring continued operation in the demanding environment required by the
soldier technician.
"The MSD-V2 contract award validates VT Miltope's continued support,
together with SESI, of the US Army in tactical computer systems and
logistics as well as our constant commitment to the entire test and
diagnostic community." ~ Brigadier General (US Army, Ret) Tom DICKINSON,
President and CEO, VT Miltope
