Japan's top toymaker Bandai plans to merge with game company Namco

TOKYO May 2, 2005: Japan's top toymaker Bandai Co Ltd plans to merge with major game company Namco Ltd, officials said on Monday, with reports saying the integration was expected later this year.

"It is true that we are planning to integrate operations (with Namco)," a Bandai spokeswoman said.

"Details will be announced when a formal decision comes," she said, adding board directors were holding an extraordinary meeting Monday to discuss the matter.

A Namco spokeswoman said the company was "considering" the integration, although a formal decision is yet to be made.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported Monday the pair would form a holding company possibly in late September, creating Japan's second-largest toy-game business group.
