American Science and Engineering, Inc. Establishes
Marketing and Distribution Channel in China for the ZBV with Nuctech; AS&E
to supply ZBV X-ray Sub-Systems to Nuctech Company Limited
BILLERICA, Mass., Dec 19, 2005 -- Continuing to expand the global reach of
its proprietary technology, American Science and Engineering, Inc. (ASEI)
(AS&E(R)), a worldwide leader in X-ray detection technology, announced today
a marketing and distribution partnership in China with Nuctech Company
Limited (Nuctech), a worldwide leading research and development enterprise
and manufacturer of cargo X-ray inspection systems, for the Z(R) Backscatter
Van(TM) (ZBV). In addition to acting as a value added reseller, Nuctech will
supply parts, training, warranty and service and support for the ZBV. The
partnership will enable AS&E access into the Chinese security inspection
market.
The agreement provides for Nuctech to integrate a pre-assembled X-ray
sub-system of AS&E's Z Backscatter Van (ZBV) into a local vehicle chassis
for distribution to Chinese customers. The X-ray sub-system will include
AS&E proprietary software. AS&E has also received the first order from
Nuctech for the ZBV X-ray sub-system.
"This agreement offers AS&E a significant opportunity to bring our
proprietary ZBV into the world's fastest growing market," said Anthony
Fabiano, President and CEO. "Our new partner, Nuctech, with its reputation
for delivering high-quality X-ray detection systems, will open up key
distribution channels in China for the ZBV. The first order for the ZBV
X-ray sub-system initiates this strategic alliance -- another important step
for the ZBV's recognition in the world marketplace."
Fabiano continued, "In advance of this agreement, AS&E has filed for patents
in China for AS&E's proprietary technology -- a move that is consistent with
our strategy to secure protection for our critical Intellectual Property
internationally as well as domestically. We look forward to working closely
with our colleagues at Nuctech to make the sale of the ZBV in China a
mutually successful business venture."
A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van is a
low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available
delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to
security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid
inspections. The system's unique "drive-by" capability allows one or two
operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect
vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a
remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from
a distance of up to 500 meters.
