With foreign players gaining entry in to the country, Chinese telecom sector is set to grow exponentially in the years to come.

Telecom subscribers in China are enjoying better communication services as the telecom industry has opened the windows of opportunity for foreign players to break the monopoly in this sector. The telecom industry in China sustained a positive development during 2006, the information and electronics industries together accounted for nearly 7% of Chinese economy.

Representing a YOY growth of 7.5%, the fixed asset investment in Chinas telecom sector touched the mark of 218.69 Billion Yuan (i.e. US$ 28 Billion) in the year 2006, as per the Information Industry Ministry.

The telecom sector, comprising fixed line phone links, Internet services, mobile phone connections, raked in 648 Billion Yuan (i.e. US$ 83 Billion) in revenues. In 2006, there were about 368 Million fixed line phone users throughout the nation, representing 17 million up against previous year.
